Google keyword planner is a free tool available to find the keywords. If you are not using any premium account keyword tool like SEMrush or Longtailpro, you can use keyword planner for searching keywords. This tool is very easy to use and has multiple functions. There are many options available to find the exact or proper keyword in this tool. So, let us learn step by step about how to use this tool and find out the keywords.
Step 1: Login to Google AdWords

Login to google keyword planner through google AdWords. You can just sign in through your Gmail account, as shown in the below picture.
Step 2: Go to keyword planner
Once you sign in, just click the Tools tab, as shown in the below image. Once, you click the Tools tab, you will see the Keyword planner. Just click the Keyword planner to enter into the tool.

Step 3: How to search and find the keywords in keyword planner
Find keywords in little time consuming. Always remember to target long tail keywords and the most specific keywords. For example, I have entered my keyword below as “dexa scan”, as you can see in the below image. The remaining setting are by default in keyword planner. The audience targeted here is US (United States of America). Many option like include, exclude etc. are there in planner to filter the correct targeted keyword. Now, let us check how many results are available in google search engine for this keyword “dexa scan”.

Step 4:  How to find the keyword from keyword ideas
Now, there is competition shown for each keyword like high, medium and low in keyword planner. If you have a new blog, always go with keyword with low competition.  As you can see for our keyword the competition is low. But, we should also look at the number of results for that keyword. Here, it is average monthly search (last 12 months) showing 10k to 100k which is very high. Now, let us check the number of results in search engine.

Step 5: check the search engine results for your keyword
Now, you see the result in search engine for our keyword in the below picture. There are around 3,27,000 result available for “dexa scan” in the google search engine. So, already many websites have targeted this keyword in hence it will be difficult to come to the first page of search engine for this keyword.

Step-6 Create a long tail keyword 
Now, we will go with long tail keyword. We will search for more specific keyword for example “cpt code for dexa scan”. Now, let us see for keyword ideas for this keyword in planner. As you can see in the below picture, the average monthly search for this keyword is around 100 to 1k and the competition is also low. This keyword is very good to target, but we will confirm with the number of result in search engines.

Now, as you see below, the number of results for “cpt code for dexa scan” is only 6400. If we compare with “dexa scan” you can easily see the competition is low for both but the results in search engine are very less for long tail keyword “cpt code for dexa scan”. Any keyword having result below 10k in search engines, is very good to target. So, finally you got your keyword to target. Now, just write a good article and insert this keyword in title, h1, h2, meta description etc. and in few days your article will be in the first page of the google search engine.
